Denmark

Policy

In 2008 the first national Homelessness Strategy in Denmark was adopted by the Danish parliament.2 A key aim in the programme was to develop and test evidence- based interventions in a Danish setting. Following the growing evidence from other countries on the merits of the Housing First approach, a decision was taken to make Housing First the overall principle of the Danish strategy. Not only the increasing evidence from randomised studies of Housing First in the US, but also emerging results from other Nordic countries and growing evidence against the staircase approach influenced this decision.
